I have visited and tasted many different Japanese steakhouses all across the states. Never have I had more distasteful food and unpleasant service than my experience I had this evening while dining out with my family. Ria was our server tonight. Usually I gravitate towards defending servers when they look stretched thin and forget refilling drinks and asking if there's any service they can provide. This, however, was another story. This particular server wasn't polite in any way, everything from her demeanor, tone of voice, and body gestures indicated that she was not going to be providing any "customer service" for the evening. That wasn't the biggest issue though. Typically I drop a pricey ticket at Japanese steakhouses, with a large family, an appetite for sushi, and wanting to enjoy the hibachi- it all adds up. I have respect for a higher price and a quality product. Tonight I would have rather had Steak N Shake! Sushi was sub par, food was cold(ordered hibachi at the table), water and beer not filled, and a server who had the personality of a teenager who didn't want to clean their room, I think it's safe to say- you can skip this place! Believe me, your family will appreciate it! Plus you won't have that feeling when you don't get what you paid for.

We were excited to discover that Richmond now has a Japanese Steakhouse, however we don't plan on going back. It is one step up from the Japanese Steakhouse in Corbin, in that it actually has the Hibachi grills. The food was actually pretty good, for the most part, just certain nuances were a turn off. Here are a few examples....
One of the best parts of going to a J/S is the Yum-yum sauce (the off white sauce they serve in little trays) was water down and salty as hell (THAT'S A HUGE NO-NO TO ME). During their "show", the chef usually cooks up some shrimp and tosses it into your mouth...this place used bits of egg instead (WTF?). They also typically squirt sake into your mouth too...but that didn't happen (not that the alcohol isn't a necessity, but still). My steak was cooked perfectly (medium rare), but the wife's steak was cooked medium when it was supposed to be well-done & her lobster was served in huge chunks rather than the bite sized portions it's supposed to be. The mushroom soup they serve before dinner was lukewarm and the salad was swimming in a soupy ginger dressing, rather than the thick, pasty that the dressing is supposed to be.
As far as service goes, we were seated right away. Walking in, I noticed 2 habachi tables were about 2/3 full, but no one cooking yet at either. We sat down at the table and a minute later here comes the cook!! WTF? The cook looks confused, trying to figure out why he has more people at the table than are on his piece of paper. The waiter runs up to us and apologizes, stating that "the people up front don't know what they're doing". He quickly gets us our drinks and our soup & salad (described above). As our drinks are being served, the table in the other room is getting started with an half empty table...so basically, rather pacing things out and seating people accordingly...this place was a huge mess. I've never seen two grills getting fired up at the same time (ours would've started at the same time if we hadn't been thrown in the mix very last minute). I will say though, the waiter was awesome. He stayed on job, checking on us properly.
Overall, just a lousy experience. We'd rather drive the extra 20 minutes and go to our favorite J/S in Lexington. (As other reviews have said, I'm forced to leave at least one star...)

My experience has been awful. I have ordered take out numerous times here and I have yet to receive my proper order. I ordered a Spicy tuna tempura and was charged but never received it. I gave them the benefit of the doubt but later received the wrong roll completely, they gave me a Shrimp Tempura in place of a much more expensive Surf and Turf roll, though they charged for the more expensive of the two. And now recently I ordered a Lobster Tempura Roll, they gave me a Lobster Bomb Roll, I called and told them again of this mixup and that I have had a lot of trouble getting what I actually order, they reassured me, wrote my name and number down, and then said please come back any time and pick up this roll for free. Well I just called them to ask if I could pick this roll up today they said they have no record of my name being written down and can not just "give food away for free". I told them this is ridiculous, I will never return to this restaurant, and this roll was hardly free considering how many times they have messed up my order. I only give one start because it is mandatory, this has to be the worst costumer service I have ever received and I feel legitimately ripped off. Please stay clear of this restaurant.
